Windows Media Player 11

In the line of... EVEN MORE STUFF...

Windows Media Player 11 has been released as well (apparently on October 30th, so I'm a little late).  No matter what your oppinion of the previous media player versions has been, you owe it to yourself to check this one out.  This is the closest I've seen to doing this "right" (IMO).  The team has done a great job making many improvements features and usability... more importantly... the performance has been greatly improved as well.

Seriously Microsoft.. Is this a joke?  This has got to be the slowest media player I've ever tested.  It takes almost 10 seconds to start up on my PC.

When I launch an MP3 I expect it to start playing in less than 100ms or else I will ditch it and find something else.

In addition it is heavily infested with DRM (Digital Restrictions Management) + you cannot even uninstall it if you don't have system restore enabled.

I'm thinking you've got something wrong with your machine.  I've got three computers running in front of me.  Two are Windows XP MCE and the other is Windows XP Home (Laptop).  All three machines, Media Player 11 launches as fast as any application possibly can launch.

I have over 9300 music files in the library and it returns search results nearly as fast as I can type.

I double click on a file explorer and it takes less than 2 seconds to launch and hear audio playing.

DRM?  Yes, it has DRM... but for everything I do, it's not being utilized.  I like being able to play *my* music (that I ripped from CD) on any machine I choose.

Uninstall?  Well considering that you aren't really able to uninstall previous editions of media player, I don't see this as being too big of a deal.  A previous version was installed with the OS (I believe it was version 9) and this is a newer version of the UI and sub-systems that make up media player... so it's kind of hard to uninstall.  Also, given how much of an improvement it is over the previous versions (9/10) -- why would you want to. ;-)
